Jiyoung Wi is a musician/improviser and fiction writer floating between Rotterdam and Seoul.

Her bifocal practice explores narrative possibilities in non-image-based mediums. She has developed a series of ‘sound fiction’ works focusing on the tentative reciprocity between sound and text. As a self-punitive improviser, through her negative virtuosity and risk-taking gestures, she confronts the thresholds of sonic immediacy. 

She has performed at Volksbühne (DE), Café OTO (UK), Columbia University (US), Sonic Acts (NL), Silent Green (DE), Les Siestes Festival (FR), AN(8)X Festival (DE), the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (BE), Tama Art University (JP), Society for Arts and Technology (CA), among others.

She has also contributed as a sound producer in exhibitions and performances held at the Sharjah Biennial (UAE), The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon (KR), SeMA (KR), Ilmin Museum of Art (KR), Oil Tank Culture Park (KR), Insa Art Space (KR), and Leeum Museum of Art (KR), among others.
